Bhubaneswar: The meteorological centre here Saturday issued heat wave warning in nine districts of Odisha as sweltering heat pushed the day temperatures above 40 degrees in at least 14 places in the state.

The weather warning was issued for three days from Saturday in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Malkangiri, Bargarh, Sonepur, Nuapada and Boudh districts, the met centre said.

The sizzling summer heat pushed the mercury up to 45 degrees at Titlagarh in Bolangir district in the wetsren part of the state during the day making it the hottest place in the state.

It was followed by Bolangir town wjhich recorded 43.5 degrees, while it was 43.3 at Talcher, 43.2 at Sonepur and 43 at Jharsuguda, the met centre said.

Both Angul and Sambalpur recorded 42.7 degree celsius, while the mercury touched 42.6 degrees at Bhawanipatna, 42.5 at Malkangiri, 42 at both Sundargarh and Hirakud, 41.6 at Phulbani, 40.7 degree at Chandbali and 40.3 degree at Keonjhar, it said.

Bhubaneswar simmered at 39.3 degrees, up from 38.2 on Friday.
