Katrina Kaif to join Akshay Kumar in Rohit Shetty’s cop drama

After the success of ‘Simmba’, director Rohit Shetty and producer Karan Johar have already finalized the female lead for their next cop drama, ‘Sooryavanshi’, which stars Akshay Kumar in the title role. The makers have confirmed none other than, Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif to pair opposite to Akshay in this film and Akshay Kumar will portray the character of Veer Sooryavanshi, chief of the Anti-Terrorism Squad.

Both the lead actor and the producer of the film took to their social media handle to share the news with their fans. Akshay and Karan posted a picture featuring the entire Sooryavanshi team. Along with the photo, Karan tweeted, “Welcoming the #Sooryavanshi girl on board, #KatrinaKaif! Releasing on Eid 2020” while Akshay wrote, “Welcome to our COP UNIVERSE #KatrinaKaif…OUR SOORYAVANSHI Girl .”

Earlier Akshay and Katrina have shared good chemistry on the silver screen, considering the fact that they have delivered massive blockbusters in Namaste London (2007), Singh is Kinng (2008) and Welcome (2008). The duo last paired up for Farah Khan's 2010 comedy Tees Maar Khan, best known for Kaif's iconic song 'Sheila Ki Jawani'.

There had been speculations that the film was a remake of a Tamil hit. But recently, Shetty released a statement dismissing all the rumours. The film is all set to hit the theatres in Eid, 2020.
