Yes it has happened! Frank Underwood has become ‘The President’.
Francis ‘Frank’ Underwood had finally achieved his life's ambition of becoming President of the United States, after secretly working to outcast his predecessor, President Walker. At the same time, his wife Claire has been dealing with the intense emotional consequences of having broken a promise to a sexual assault survivor and having manipulated Walker's wife in order to aid her husband's ambition.
Even after attaining the most powerful seat, Frank found himself to be a target of enemies- both foreign and domestic who set their sight on the unelected Commander in Chief. His main adversary abroad was Russian President Viktor Petrov; the two butted heads over a treaty that was designed to bring peace to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The Season sets the tone from the very first- It is insane! One can see the first scene of Season 3:
‘Frank pissing on his father’s grave.’
Season 3 sees Frank and Claire drowning from their own rookie mistakes. The season presents how they were overwhelmed by the Presidency. For starters, Frank as the ‘President’ struggles with two issues during his time in office: First, he has to get his ‘America Works’ program off the ground, which seeks to end all entitlements and use the money to fund a $500 billion program that would create 10 million jobs. Second, he wants to create peace in the Jordan Valley between Israel and Palestine, but to do so he has to partner with the Russian President- not a sunny picture!
The season ends with Frank and Claire’s final confrontation. Showrunner Beau Willimon wanted to show the audience that the game had changed, and that Claire was truly taking charge of the agency she claimed she had been denied through her marriage to Frank. It definitely is a big build-up for the upcoming season.
